Over the last seven years TSR: The Southampton Review has published fine fiction, non-fiction, plays, poetry, and visual art from some of the world’s most important talents. TSR Editions builds on this history, and is dedicated to publishing limited edition fine prints and artists’ books from both established and emerging artists.
TSR Editions artwork is available in selected galleries and fine bookstores, as well as directly from the publisher. A unique subscription opportunity offers collectors the chance to own each editioned project.
The Studio
Located on the seaside Stony Brook Southampton campus, the Almost Beachfront Print Studio was established in 2012 as a venue where artists could develop original work in the print medium. The studio is equipped with the latest wide-format digital printers, and has capabilities for traditional mediums such as screen printing and lithography. While focusing on limited edition fine prints and artists’ books, the studio also collaborates with artists on one-of-a-kind works, installation pieces, and conceptual projects.
In its inaugural year, ten professional artists created new work in the studio, and during that summer, graduate students had an opportunity to print broadsides, artists’ books, and large-scale photographs. The studio’s first editioned artists’ book, Nunc et Semper, by Joe Pintauro, was published in 2013 in collaboration with TSR Editions. Future projects will include work by Frederic Tuten and Billy Collins.
The Young Artists and Writers Project
The Almost Beachfront Print Studio offers a unique opportunity to small groups of talented high school artists through the Young Artists and Writers Project. In the three-day Young Printmakers Program, students work in the print studio using professional equipment and media. While the results are often beautiful prints, artists’ books, and sculptural objects, the goal is to experience the collaborative environment of the studio, and to create something absolutely new. In our initial workshops, students have made wearable prints, created site-specific and conceptual work, and elegant artists’ books. Participation in our printmaking intensives allows young artists to enhance their portfolios in advance of the college application process.
